23rd March 2011

I’m starting to get excited about the Liverpool Sound City 2011 festival ! The dates are 19-21 May – check out the festival website for more info including ticket sales. Here’s my selection of some of the bands to look out for – say hello if you see me there …

Local man Miles Kane is one half of The Last Shadow Puppets and former lead singer of The Rascals. His first solo album Colour Of The Trap is due out in May.

The Sand Band also hail from Merseyside. This song’s from their newly released debut album All Through The Night.

Yuck were one of the BBC Sound of 2011 feature artists, and my January 2011 Band of the Month. Their self titled album was released in February : this is the opening track.

Also appearing in the BBC Sound of 2011 list was the Nashville based band Mona.

I’ve got a growing admiration for the singer songwriter Kurt Vile (not to be confused with Kurt Weill). This is from Smoke Ring for My Halo, which came out in March 2011.

Toronto band The Rural Alberta Advantage also released an album in March 2011. It’s called Departing, and here’s one of the tracks.

Alessi’s Ark is a 20 year old English singer songwriter. She’s already recorded her second album : Time Travel can be purchased from April 25th. I think this is an older track though. It’s a cover of a Lynyrd Skynyrd classic.

Rachel Sermanni is a 19 year old Scot. She recently recorded her first ever EP at an old school house on the Isle of Mull, and the release date is set for May 2011.
